Pediatric Center

NYC Health and Hospitals/Woodhull’s Department of Pediatrics provides comprehensive services for children. The department is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of pediatricians that gives you and your child the tools for a healthy start in life from the newborn nursery to our specialized adolescent program.

Neonatal Services

The Maternal-Child post-partum unit has single rooms, and the babies room with mothers throughout their stay. We have a 10-14 bed Level III-C NICU staffed with skilled neonatal nurses and a board certified neonatologist for babies that are born premature or with other issues that required specialized attention. We support breast feeding for all mothers that choose to breastfeed and provide comprehensive education to prepare the families for the safe transition of their newborn baby from the hospital to the home.

Inpatient Unit

The inpatient service has eight general pediatric and four special unit monitored beds to care for acute hospitalizations. Children hospitalized in our inpatient unit receive optimal care by an interdisciplinary team of pediatricians, pediatric specialists, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, respiratory therapists, and social workers. The unit also provides a Child Life Program and Hospital School Education Program to support the children and their families throughout the hospitalization.

Pediatric Ambulatory Services

Our Primary Care services ensure that your child’s care continues from infancy through adolescence with preventive health maintenance visits that include comprehensive evaluations, developmental assessments, and up-to-date immunizations, as well as walk-in sick visits. Special programs target health issues that are important to our community such as asthma case management, high-risk newborns, and lead screening. The practice also offers subspecialty services that include adolescent medicine, asthma/pulmonology, cardiology, developmental/ADHD, endocrinology, hematology, neonatal high risk, nephrology, neurology, and rheumatology. The clinic also offers the Reach Out and Read and the Video Interaction programs that enhance your child’s development through age appropriate play, reading, and parental interactions. We also offer the Health Leads program that assists families with any needs they might have by providing linkage with community organizations.

Pediatric Residency Program

Our Pediatric Residency Program is fully accredited by the ACGME with academic affiliations with New York University Langone Hospital, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, Downstate University Hospital, and Jersey Shore Medical Center. Our program provides a strong Primary Care education with exposure to a variety of clinical cases from our diverse community and rounding the education with elective and tertiary care experience at our academic affiliates.
