Operating Room Nursing Fellowship

Operating Room Nursing Fellowship

The Office of Patient Centered Care has developed a specialized Operating Room Nursing Fellowship for nurses throughout NYC Health + Hospitals with a desire to build a long-term career in the perioperative setting.

Perioperative nursing encompasses a broad range of nursing duties related to the surgical management of patients before during and after surgery, ensuring their journey through surgery is safe and successful. This specialized area of nursing requires registered nurses to collaborate closely with other surgical healthcare professionals as part of a cohesive team.

The Operating Room Nursing Fellowship provides a structured transition-to-practice pathway for new graduate nurses or nurses new to perioperative settings and is open to newly licensed registered nurses or nurses transitioning into perioperative nursing. The Fellowship aims to develop clinical confidence, critical thinking, and specialty competence in perioperative nursing care.

This fellowship program uses a blended learning approach, which includes the use of various teaching methodologies including evidence-based e-learning modules, in-person lectures, simulations and role playing.  Professional development opportunities and mentoring are provided during and after the conclusion of the fellowship program.
