2027 Vision: The New State-of-the-Art Emergency Department
We are thrilled to announce a massive, transformative modernization project. Beginning in 2027, construction will commence to completely overhaul and redesign the entire first floor of North Central Bronx Hospital. This capital project will deliver a brand-new, state-of-the-art Adult and Pediatric Emergency Department engineered for 21st-century medicine.
Key features of the upcoming renovation include:
- Dedicated In-Department Imaging: The new ED layout will house its own on-site CT scanner and dedicated X-ray suites, entirely eliminating patient transit times and drastically accelerating emergency diagnostics.
- Advanced Resuscitation Suites: Purpose-built, high-intensity resuscitation rooms equipped with the latest critical care technologies.
- Optimized EMS Infrastructure: Redesigned ambulance bays to allow faster, more streamlined EMS access directly into the acute care zones.
- Modernized Pediatric ED: A completely updated space tailored specifically to the comfort, safety, and specialized care of our younger patients.

- Pioneering Forensic Care: NCB holds the historic distinction of being the first designated New York State SART/SAFE Center for Excellence, recognized for its gold-standard, interdisciplinary care of sexual assault survivors. Patients are treated by a deeply compassionate team of specialized forensic examiners and dedicated victim advocates.
