Surgical Oncology is a specialty of Surgery that focuses on cancer surgery and surgical oncologists are surgeons who undergo extra learning so that they understand all types of cancer treatment in addition to surgery. At NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, we have both a surgical oncology hospital service as well as a clinic where all patients are discussed with a large group of cancer specialists so that every patient gets offered the best and most up-to-date cancer care. Bellevue patients also have access to clinical trials for cancer when this may be the best possible treatment for the patient. We also help evaluate new masses that have the potential to be cancerous or pre-cancerous, perform preventative surgery for patients with genetic predispositions to developing cancer, and treat complex disorders involving the liver and pancreas.
