NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue announced that the hospital’s Emergency Management Team has been honored by American Security Today and received the 2020 Platinum “ASTORS” award. The Emergency Management Team, led by Boyd Dixon, was recognized as the best emergency response team for federal/state and local programs. Dixon created an emergency management program that contends with terrorist incidents, VIPs, the United Nations General Assembly, and mass casualty incidents. This system was challenged during the COVID-19 pandemic, as Bellevue had to manage transfer patients who required intensive care treatment, as well as massive needs for additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and respirators. Dixon and team managed the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) with efficiency and accuracy.
The American Security Today’s ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards program is in its fifth year and continues to recognize the outstanding innovations of top firms and agencies in the homeland security and public safety fields. It is also the preeminent U.S. Homeland Security Awards Program highlighting the most cutting-edge and forward-thinking security solutions coming onto the market today. The 2020 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program added many new categories including a section for COVID-19 detection and innovation. ‘ASTORS’ awards winners were selected by an American Security Today panel of judges, and the ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards are presented at the Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze levels.
“I am humbled, honored and at the same time excited to receive such an honor. This award demonstrates hard work and exceptional teamwork, and we, here at Bellevue, continue to strive for excellence. I want to thank the Emergency Management team and all of those who have made this happen,” said Boyd Dixon, Emergency Preparedness Director NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.
