Palliative Care

Gouverneur’s multi—disciplinary team of professionals are concerned about treating the whole person, and recognizes the need to focus upon preventing and alleviating suffering, improving quality of life, and helping loved-ones cope with the stress and burden often associated with illness.

The focus upon relieving suffering and improving quality of life, known as Palliative care, is provided at Gouverneur by an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals led that by a doctor with specialized training in the palliative medicine subspecialty.

Hospice Care

Gouverneur’s team of professionals provide patient-centered care for all stages of life.  Patients facing a life-limiting illness may decide to receive hospice services, which typically can begin when doctors determine a patient likely has 6 months or less to live.

Gouverneur’s Hospice care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of professionals who meet with the patient and family to ensure that the care plan is provided to expressly address the patient’s unique needs and wishes. The goal is to offer compassionate and expert medical care, effective pain management, and emotional and spiritual support that ensures that the final months of life are as good and fulfilling as they can be for the patient and their loved ones.

Hospice services are recognized as the best care for many patients facing end of life issues, and are typically covered by Medicaid, Medicare and other insurers.
