The residents are fortunate to be unionized under the Committee of Interns and Residents. In addition to the above salaries, through the Department of Radiology or through CIR, the residents receive:
- $3500/year meal allowance
- Complimentary access to radiology learning resources RADPrimer, STATdx, and e-Anatomy
- American Institute for Radiologic Pathology’s (AIRP) four-week resident course in Silver Spring, MD paid for by the residency program
- Four weeks of paid vacation each year
- 10 federal holidays each year
- 5 Conference Days
- Conference expenses paid for by the radiology department when presenting in a conference
- Malpractice insurance coverage is provided by the Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) of the City of New York
Additionally, CIR provides:
- $550 New Resident Differential bonus when you begin residency
- $750 Professional Education Plan (PEP) each year provides reimbursement for educational activities, educational equipment, and registration fees
- $1,500 Continued Learning Program (every 3 years)
- $3,000 QI/PS Quality Improvement Scholarship
- $3500 childcare reimbursement
- Prescription coverage $500 yearly for member and $500 yearly for each dependent
- Optical coverage, one free eye exam yearly for each dependent and one free pair of lenses and set of frames yearly for each dependent (up to $225)
- Dental coverage, two plans through Guardian: Managed Dental Guard (an in-network plan) and Dental Guard Preferred (an out-of-network plan)
- Life insurance, $150,000 for member — $20,000 for spouse
- Disability insurance, Short Term Disability — up to $875 a month up to 90 days, Long Term Disability — 70% of annual salary up to $3,500 per month
