Leila M. Taqueban, MSN, RN, CCRN, APRN, BC

Associate Executive Director of Nursing Education & Simulation at the Simulation Center/Elmhurst

Leila Taqueban is the Associate Executive Director of Nursing Education & the Simulation Center/Elmhurst. She completed her Masters of Science in nursing degree with a concentration on Clinical Nurse Specialist role in Adult Acute Care from Columbia University; her Bachelor’s in Nursing degree from the Pontifical University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, graduating Cum Laude. Leila holds a certification as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) from the American Association of Critical Care and as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse Board Certified (APRN BC) from the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center. She is currently an Instructor for the American Heart Association Basic and Advance Cardiac Life Support programs.

Leila has more than 35 years’ experience in various roles throughout her nursing career, ranging from bedside clinician, educator in both the clinical & academic setting, and nursing administration. She has worked in multiple specialties that include adult & pediatric medical, surgical critical care, trauma, coronary care, emergency nursing, post-anesthesia care and invasive cardiology. Highlights of her career include: obtaining & managing NY State grants for nursing education for 6 years consecutive years; developing and implementing clinical nursing programs to include Critical Care Course, Coronary Care Course, Emergency Department Course, Triage Course, Trauma Course, Basic EKG Interpretation, Twelve Lead EKG Interpretation, Ischemic & Hemorrhagic Stroke, Vascular Access Program, Sepsis Initiative, Evidence Based Practice in Nursing, and Preceptorship Program. In addition to nursing education functions, she develops, reviews, and revises clinical policies & procedures, practice guidelines, and clinical competencies for the Department of Nursing.

As the AED for Nursing Education and Simulation she is not only responsible to ensure standards & principles of teaching & learning are maintained for every program delivered but also is responsible for the personnel and financial management of the Simulation Center at Elmhurst.
