New York, NY

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that it had received the 2019 Brandon Hall Group’s ‘Excellence in Learning’ gold award. The Brandon Hall Group is a human capital management advisory firm that advises on employee learning and development, and workforce management. The award is considered the “Oscar” for human resources managers and learning and development teams. The City’s public health system received this recognition for aligning training to larger organizational goals and employee engagement. Initiatives, such as computer skills training, which more than 2,000 employees completed in 2019, and the system-wide new employee orientation, which over 11,000 new employees participated in since its inception in 2015, helped secure the recognition. In 2019, employees completed more than 200,000 learning engagements, which include online courses and in-person trainings.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this prestigious award in the human resources and employee development space,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Chief Learning Officer Ivelesse Mendez-Justiniano. “The ‘Excellence in Learning’ gold award further validates NYC Health + Hospitals’ hard work to introduce system-wide initiatives that measure learning and development, which ultimately help impact our patient outcomes.”

“The Brandon Hall Group would like to congratulate the leadership and the learning team at NYC Health + Hospitals for its achievements in making various training initiatives not only scalable but also sustainable. The ‘Excellence Awards’ recognize programs that measurably benefit organizations,” said Brandon Hall Group CEO Mike Cooke. “Many human capital management departments are unable to confirm that their initiatives help the business’s bottom line. Because we focus on measurable benefits, our awards program is universally recognized and highly prestigious.”

Winners were selected after undergoing a rigorous judging process. Award entries were evaluated by a panel of veteran, independent senior industry experts, Brandon Hall Group analysts and executives based upon the following criteria: fit to the need, design of the program, functionality, innovation and overall measurable benefits.

Other recipients of this recognition include global company giants such as Johnson and Johnson, Cardinal Health, Accenture, Colgate-Palmolive, Google, Microsoft, and PepsiCo. NYC Health + Hospitals was honored at the Brandon Hall Group’s 2020 HCM Excellence Conference earlier this month. The full list of winners are listed here.

In 2019 NYC Health + Hospitals’ Workforce Development Department launched the Leadership Simulation Program in partnership with Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, to better equip their leaders in today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment. Three cohorts were completed and two more cohorts are set to launch in spring 2020. The team is currently in the process of developing additional initiatives, such as the Data Analytics Program, created to empower staff with knowledge and skills in the latest data-software for quality data-reporting, and the Pharmacy Academy, to provide certification opportunities for Pharmacy Technicians in alignment with new legislature.
