NYC Health + Hospitals Launches "Psych DOCS4NYC" Campaign to Recruit More Psychiatry Providers

Health system seeks to fill psychiatry positions to continue to meet the demands of mental health care across the City during the COVID-19 pandemic

Jan 04, 2021

New York, NY

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced the system’s official recruitment campaign to help fill a number of open psychiatry positions. These new behavioral health doctors will further help the system meet the demand of mental health care the City has experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Opportunities for psychiatrists are wide-ranging depending on expertise and interest, but include psychiatric emergency services, acute in-patient treatment, primary care integrated services, assertive community treatment, and substance use services – among other areas. The recruitment campaign will run through January 2021. New psychiatrists will join the system’s team of over 300-mission-driven psychiatrists and help provide patient-centered and culturally sensitive treatment to adults, children, and adolescents in the 11 public hospitals and NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Gouverneur.

“NYC Health + Hospitals is proud to provide more than 50 percent of all behavioral health care in the City, and ensure that care is culturally-competent, high-quality, and affordable to all,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Office of Behavioral Health Charles Barron, MD. “The COVID-19 pandemic presented the residents of this City with new mental health challenges, which the public health system is eager to help support. Our recruitment efforts will only enhance our mental health services and help keep our promise of providing the best care available to all in need.”

The PSYCH DOCS4NYC campaign includes a new webpage that will feature compelling video testimonials by psychiatrists whose personal stories underscore the growth and leadership opportunities available to providers in the system. The webpage also highlights the system’s institutional academic affiliations with some of the nation’s premier medical schools, which offer psychiatrists opportunities to be involved in scholarly work and teach both medical students and residents, as well as other trainees.

Other elements of the PSYCH DOCS4NYC campaign include advertising on various social media platforms and selected psychiatry websites. NYC Health + Hospitals will also coordinate recruitment efforts with affiliates, such as the Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY), Mt. Sinai, and NYU Langone Health.

By serving in the largest public hospital system in the nation, psychiatrists at NYC Health + Hospitals have access to state-of-the-art technology and resources, and are at the forefront of city and state healthcare initiatives designed to enhance patient care and increase New Yorkers’ access to innovative treatment modalities.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, NYC Health + Hospitals has delivered over 300,000 televisits in its mental health and chemical dependency clinics. To care for individuals with Opioid Use Disorder during the pandemic, the City’s public hospital system also created a virtual Buprenorphine (Suboxone) Clinic to meet patients wherever, whenever they can in a highly flexible setting. Pathways to Care, which aims at expediting appointments for children and adolescents from neighborhood schools in the areas hardest hit by COVID-19 was also recently launched.

Behavioral health teams at NYC Health + Hospitals also supported the system’s robust employee emotional and psychological support services. These services included over 9,000 proactive unit-based wellness rounds and hundreds of calls to the public health system’s anonymous behavioral health employee hotline.
