Statement of Dr. Ross Wilson, CEO, HHC Accountable Care Organization, Regarding CMS announcement of HHC ACO’s High Performance and Earned Bonus Payment

Aug 26, 2015

“For the second year in a row, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid announced that the HHC Accountable Care Organization proved successful in helping improve the health of New Yorkers while reducing wasteful spending. Our ACO member hospitals, physicians and other providers together achieved superior quality scores for patient care and at the same time reduced healthcare spending by $7.1 m, earning a Medicare Shared Savings Program earned performance payment of over $2.6 million for 2014. As one of the few ACOs in the country run by a public healthcare system, we are particularly proud to be among fewer than 25 percent of ACOs that generated savings, while meeting cost and quality targets.
“HHC has long excelled at primary care, and the performance of the HHC ACO demonstrates the value of excellent primary care in the efficient management of high-risk patient populations. By engaging and educating our patients, and encouraging them to access quality primary care and preventive services, we can reduce costs and improve patient outcomes and satisfaction. This is a lesson that can be translated more broadly across the health system and indeed to the nation in general.”
