Public Health System Leader Named among Nation’s “Most Influential”

Aug 21, 2018

New York, NY

NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO Mitchell Katz, MD, has been named one of Modern Healthcare‘s “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” for 2018. Dr. Katz joins an impressive list of policy leaders and health care executives from around the country who are making a significant impact on the health care industry and within their organizations.

A primary care physician and Brooklyn native, Dr. Katz took over the largest public health care system in the country in January 2018 after heading the public systems in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Under his leadership, New York City’s public health care system is prioritizing the growth of primary care with the opening of new community health centers and a new physician recruitment campaign, DOCS4NYC. He is also focused on the long-term financial health of the system and has created a balanced, five-year budget plan with new revenue-generating and savings initiatives to build a healthier, more resilient health system.

Dr. Katz recently led emergency physicians and community advocates in recognizing the health care needs of children separated by their parents at the border, and also urged passage of a state bill to expand speed cameras in school zones to reduce preventable deaths and injuries caused by traffic accidents.

The “100 Most Influential” recognition program acknowledges and honors individuals who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential individuals in the industry, in terms of leadership and impact. The complete rankings were announced in this week’s issue (August 20) of Modern Healthcare magazine: ModernHealthcare.com/100MostInfluential.
