Plachikkat V. Anantharam Appointed Chief Financial Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals

Nov 24, 2015

NEW YORK

NYC Health + Hospitals President Dr. Ram Raju today announced the appointment of Plachikkat V. Anantharam as Chief Financial Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals, the nation’s largest public health care system. Mr. Anantharam has served as Deputy Director for Health and Social Services at the New York City Office of Management and Budget (OMB) since 1998.
“It is NYC Health + Hospitals’ good fortune to have as our incoming CFO someone with an extensive background as a health and social services budget expert,” said Dr. Raju. “P.V., as he is universally called, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having spent more than 28 years working at OMB, where he collaborated closely with our health system. I am confident that P.V. is outstandingly suited to safeguard and enhance our financial, budgetary and revenue operations going forward.”
“I look forward to working with Dr. Raju to implement his ‘2020 Vision’ plan to bring financial stability to the public health system, and negotiate other changes such as state Medicaid reform and reduced federal reimbursements for charity care,” said Mr. Anantharam. “The public health system faces numerous financial challenges and we will fight for every dollar the system deserves to ensure that taxpayer funds are maximized for the benefit of our patients.”
In Mr. Anantharam’s previous role at OMB he oversaw the management and development of municipal budgets and financial reporting for health and social services. He provided fiscal oversight and strategic review and guidance to NYC Health + Hospitals and other City human services agencies. Among his duties, he has negotiated and lent support for innovative approaches to maximizing state and federal reimbursement to the public health system.
Mr. Anantharam’s appointment was approved unanimously by the NYC Health + Hospitals Board of Directors on November 17 and became effective immediately. Since then he has worked with outgoing CFO Marlene Zurack to effect an orderly transition. Ms. Zurack will retire at the end of November as Senior Vice President of Finance and Managed Care and Corporate Chief Financial Officer after 15 years at NYC Health + Hospitals.
“It is with the deepest appreciation of her many contributions to NYC Health + Hospitals that we say farewell to Marlene Zurack,” said Dr. Raju. “Her encyclopedic knowledge of our system’s financial complexity is matched only by her passion in advocating for our patients and our health care system. On behalf of our 42,000 employees I express our gratitude for Marlene’s exceptional service.”
Mr. Anantharam holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Rutgers State University of New Jersey. He is a resident of Staten Island.
