May 01, 2018
Gay City News honored Edward Fishkin, MD, medical director at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, with its Impact Award, recognizing Dr. Fishkin’s outstanding contributions to the New York City LGBTQ community. He was honored for his work in opening the Pride Health Center at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, one of the first comprehensive health centers in Brooklyn dedicated to the LGBTQ community.
The award was presented at a dinner held at the Grand Prospect Hall in Park Slope, Brooklyn on April 26, 2018.
The opening of the Pride Health Center in July 2017 was the realization of Dr. Fishkin’s vision and the culmination of a long journey toward meeting the needs of the community. It was also the latest commitment to the community by the hospital, which has also achieved recognition from the Healthcare Equality Index of the Human Rights Campaign, every year since 2014, for the LGBTQ-affirming health care it provides.
“I am humbled by this recognition,” said Dr. Fishkin. “The motivation for this clinic was the commitment to providing care to all our communities in a manner that is responsive and sensitive to their needs. We realized that the LGBTQ community had limited options. As a team, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull took on the challenge to ensure a safe and affirming space to provide quality health care to the LGBTQ community. I am proud of our hospital family for the hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm that has made this practice a reality.”
“We congratulate Edward Fishkin on this honor; it is well deserved,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull CEO Gregory Calliste. “Our commitment to ensuring a positive, affirming environment of care for the LGBTQ community is a priority for us. Our providers are dedicated to the care of the community, and I applaud the work of the team at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, under Dr. Fishkin’s leadership.”
