NYC Test & Trace Corps Hosts Day of Action to Reach JFK Airport Workers With Covid-19 Testing and Resources

Get Tested Tuesday outreach event recognizes the contributions of essential airport employees

Feb 23, 2021

New York, NY

The NYC Test & Trace Corps today is hosting a Get Tested Tuesday day of action to reach workers at John K. Kennedy International Airport with COVID-19 testing at no cost and free resources including information and PPE to help stop the spread of the virus. This special installment of the ongoing series of Get Tested Tuesday events recognizes the crucial role that tens of thousands of frontline essential workers at the airport play for New York City.

“Our essential workers have kept New York City going throughout the fight with COVID-19, and on this Get Tested Tuesday, we want to show our appreciation for the employees at JFK Airport by raising awareness of the testing resources available to them at no cost, and other measures they can take to protect themselves and their loved ones,” said NYC Test & Trace Corps Executive Director Dr. Ted Long. “We salute the contributions of essential workers today and every day, and are working to help keep them safe.”

Co-hosted with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the Get Tested Tuesday event will encourage airport workers to get tested at no cost at the Test & Trace Corps COVID-19 testing site located at the airport next to the Terminal 5 AirTrain station. Operated in partnership with the Port Authority and Jet Blue, the site offers rapid antigen testing with results returned in under 15 minutes, and is open to all seven days per week.

NYC Test & Trace Corps outreach teams will be deployed at the following times and locations throughout the day on Tuesday, February 23:

11am-1pm: JFK Airport COVID-19 testing site, next to the Terminal 5 AirTrain Station
12pm-2pm: AirTrain JFK, Jamaica Station, 93-43 Sutphin Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11435
1pm-3pm: AirTrain JFK, Lefferts Boulevard station, Lefferts Boulevard & Liberty Avenue
4pm-6pm: JFK Airport COVID-19 testing site, next to the Terminal 5 AirTrain Station

The Test & Trace Corps regularly hosts days of action on Tuesdays to urge all New Yorkers to get tested for COVID-19 at a NYC Health + Hospitals site near them at no cost, and practice safety measures including mask wearing, social distancing, and handwashing. Millions of free masks and informational pamphlets have been distributed at hundreds of events since the launch of the Test & Trace Corps in June 2020.

“On Get Tested Tuesday, our outreach team is proud to host an event to reach the essential employees at JFK Airport with resources to help them stay safe from COVID-19,” said NYC Test & Trace Corps Campaign Manager Jonathan Viguers. “Many of those on the frontlines also hail from the hardest-hit communities, and with this effort today, we want to show that as essential workers keep our city running, we have their backs in this fight against the pandemic.”

“Getting tested isn’t just about ensuring our own health. It’s about showing our love and respect for our communities as a whole,” said Queens Borough President Donovan Richards. “Getting tested is cost-free, painless and takes just a few minutes. For our essential workers at Kennedy Airport who have kept Queens moving throughout this pandemic, we are glad to partner with the NYC Test & Trace Corps to make testing more accessible than ever this Get Tested Tuesday.”

“The Port Authority remains committed to the safety and security of passengers and employees at all of its facilities, including JFK International Airport. We are delighted to continue our partnership with NYC Test & Trace Corps to raise further awareness on the importance, and convenience of receiving a COVID-19 test on-airport,” said Charles Everett, Deputy Director of Aviation and Interim General Manager of JFK Airport.
