NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and Queens Library are launching a new series of health and wellness educational events to increase health care literacy for all residents in Queens, it was announced today. The free series will include discussions led by NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst providers on a range of topics at Queens Library branches throughout the borough. Open to the public, the discussions will focus on disaster preparedness, heart health, depression, and men’s health, among other topics. The ongoing collaboration is part of Queens Library’s Community Health Service program, which provides free health education classes, workshops, and activities to promote health awareness in the community.
“Our partnership with Queens Library is a great opportunity to help increase health literacy among the community and empower people to live their healthiest lives,” said Israel Rocha, chief executive officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. “We encourage our staff to engage with the community because it’s a fantastic way to improve population health and encourage people to make informed decisions about their health.”
“The hospital consistently delivers excellent workshops and programs led by high-level medical staff about a range of subjects that respond to the health needs of our customers across the borough,” said Queens Library President and CEO Dennis M. Walcott. “We could not ask for a better partner as we work together to improve lives and strengthen our communities.”
Dr. Rohit Hasija, orthopedic surgeon and director of the Hip and Knee Center at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, will kick off the series on Tuesday, September 5, at 1:00 p.m. at the Broadway Library branch, with a discussion of hip and knee pain.
