NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island has opened a dedicated lactation area for new mothers, in collaboration with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams’ effort to enhance family services. Anthony Rajkumar, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island marked the occasion by cutting the ribbon with Joseph Shamie, President of Delta Children, and Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Diana Reyna.
The Lactation Lounge will be open to lactating mothers, including patients, visitors, and hospital employees, to provide privacy, support, and comfort.
“We are pleased to add this important enhancement to NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island, which reflects our ongoing commitment to improving support for new mothers,” said Mr. Rajkumar. “Being a new mother is an enormous challenge, and we hope our Lactation Lounge will give them one less thing to worry about.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony revealed two intimate room settings furnished with donations from Delta Children, a leading nursery and children’s furniture manufacturer. NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island is the first public hospital to partner with Delta Children to promote breastfeeding. The donated furniture included gilders and changing tables.
“Delta Children is honored to work alongside the Borough President Eric Adams by continuing to furnish lactation stations throughout Brooklyn,” said Delta Children President Joseph Shamie. “NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island’s lounge is another example of how both public and private sectors can come together to help families live better.”
