After a thorough assessment and restoration of its electrical systems, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull will resume inpatient hospital operations on Saturday, October 7 at 8AM. The Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery, Behavioral Health, and other inpatient units will open for care. The hospital’s outpatient services will resume operation on their typical weekday schedule starting Tuesday, October 10. Additionally, approximately 50 patients who were transferred during the safe evacuation and remain hospitalized at other NYC Health + Hospitals facilities will return to Woodhull Hospital on Tuesday, October 10. The hospital conducted a thorough assessment of the damages incurred to its engineering and electrical systems, and a herculean effort was made to restore essential services and undertake repairs to bring the facility back to full operational capacity.

“After last week’s storm, public servants from across agencies came together to ensure the transfer of patients out of NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull was orderly, coordinated, and safe,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. “With the necessary electrical repairs complete and essential services restored, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull is ready to begin welcoming patients again, with inpatient services resuming tomorrow and outpatient services resuming Tuesday, October 10. Thank you to all of the first responders, hospital staff, emergency management, engineering, and facilities teams who worked around the clock to make this re-opening possible.”

“We extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all individuals who answered the call to support our hospital during this extraordinarily challenging week, culminating in the necessity to evacuate our patients. Your unwavering dedication, courage, and selflessness in the face of adversity represent the spirit of healthcare professionals and exemplify the true meaning of teamwork and resilience. Together, we stood united, prioritizing the safety and well-being of our patients above all else. Your contributions have left an indelible mark on our hospital’s history. We look forward to welcoming our patients and staff who have selected Woodhull as their hospital of choice. To the families of our patients, we are grateful for your faith in Woodhull to ensure the best possible care for those you entrusted to us,” said Gregory Calliste, CEO, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull.

“We are profoundly grateful for the extraordinary dedication and collaborative efforts of our exceptional staff, who came together tirelessly working day and night to restore our hospital and welcome our patients back. Their steadfast commitment to our community’s health and safety is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Equally heartening was the tremendous support and rapid response from our local response agencies NYCEM, FDNY, NYPD, and many others, including our state and federal regulatory partners, NYC Health + Hospitals Leadership, our Acute care hospital Senior Leaders along with our Gotham partners, and elected officials, who stood with us in unity, opening their doors to our patients and staff, providing care, and ensuring their seamless return to Woodhull. Thank you for your commitment to our mission and for embodying the essence of healthcare excellence during this critical time,” said Dr. Lisa Scott-McKenzie, COO, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull.

“Moments like these remind us how important Woodhull is to our community and how deeply committed our staff are to their patients. We are so grateful for the support from across Health + Hospitals and many other partners, which allowed us to do this safely and to reopen as quickly as possible”, said Ross MacDonald, MD, Chief Medical Officer, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull.

“We understand the importance of resuming health care services for our community, and we are eager to reopen our doors to serve our patients once again,” said Jessica Arocho, Director of Community Affairs, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull. “Hearing our community partners and elected officials immediately say, ‘How can I help you? Do you need our staff or community to come out to help?’ It makes me feel proud of the representation that our hospital has in our elected officials. The outpouring of support and collaboration from the community and our elected officials during this challenging period has been tremendous, and we are immensely grateful.”
