Community Advisory Board Chairperson (CAB) Jose Rolando Guzman, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull COO Lisa Scott-McKenzie, Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull CEO Gregory Calliste, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull CNO Dr. Angela Edwards, Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFAC) Member Elaine Manatu, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull Director of Community Affairs Jessica Arocho.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull announced that Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez secured $2 million in federal funds to support necessary infrastructure improvements and enhance patient services. This donation will provide for upgrades to various areas at the hospital, including modernizing the main kitchen food tray line, remodeling some of the behavioral health restrooms, upgrading the hospital’s security systems, and updating the nurse call systems. All projects are aimed at improving services and the patient care experience.

“Woodhull is the backbone of the North Brooklyn public healthcare system. That’s why I’ve worked throughout my time in office, particularly during the pandemic, to support Woodhull so they can continue to provide affordable, high-quality care to our community,” said Congresswoman Velázquez. “That’s why I fought to secure $2 million in funding for Woodhull in last year’s spending bill. This funding will help ensure the hospital has the resources and equipment that are essential to its operations and the safety and well-being of patients.”

“On behalf of NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull and the community, I extend our thanks and appreciation to Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez for her support in securing $2 million in funding for infrastructure upgrades. Our continuous improvements in medical services and our infrastructure require additional financial resources, so we are very grateful for these funds that will help us to achieve our goals,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull CEO Gregory Calliste.

“We are so grateful to Congresswoman Velázquez for her unwavering support and advocacy for Woodhull. We are proud to have her stand with us and continue the fight for healthcare equity for underserved communities. The Woodhull leadership will do all we can to provide high quality clinical services for North Brooklyn and this generous assistance will provide us with resources to improve care for all our patients. Thank you, Congresswoman Velázquez,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull COO Lisa Scott-McKenzie.

“Our public hospital system is one of our city’s great treasures. Congresswoman Velázquez’s
$2 million investment in Woodhull Hospital in North Brooklyn will help ensure our facilities are able to provide the highest standard of care,” said Council Member Lincoln Restler.

“Thank you for helping us here at Woodhull to improve patient care for the North Brooklyn communities. You have been a voice for the people for over 30 years. Your unwavering commitment to community issues and providing economic opportunities for those in need is nothing short of amazing. We are grateful for you and your continued dedication to NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull’s community, now and always.” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull Director of Community Affairs Jessica Arocho.

“The receipt of the funding from Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez is as essential to Woodhull Hospital as air is to a person; it is a fundamental requirement for preserving life and regaining health.” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull’s Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFAC) Member Christian Rodriguez.
