NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens Receives the PRISM Award from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses

Second consecutive year recognizing excellence in patient care and nursing practice at Queens Hospital

Jul 01, 2026

NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens leadership and staff proudly accept PRISM recognition, honoring the hospital's commitment to fostering an inclusive environment and providing compassionate, equitable care to all patients and their families.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens today announced that its Medical-Surgical Unit, 5B East, has received the prestigious PRISM Award from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN). This recognition signifies Premier Recognition inthe Specialty of Med-Surg (PRISM), honoring exemplary medical-surgical nursing practice, outstanding patient outcomes, and a commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered care. The PRISM Award specifically acknowledges 5B East for its exemplary work in nurse communication, patient experience, care of vulnerable populations, and sustained reduction of nurse-sensitive indicators. These achievements underscore the unit’s commitment to fostering a collaborative and supportive practice environment. This marks the second consecutive year that a medical-surgical unit at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens has received this distinguished award, following last year’s recognition of the B4East Medical-Surgical Unit.

A recognition event was held to express gratitude to the entire nursing team and all interdisciplinary partners who contributed to this success. Their dedication to excellence and collaborative efforts played a vital role in this achievement.

Members of the PRISM team and hospital leadership gather following the announcement of NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens’ recognition, celebrating the organization’s ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive workplace and advancing equitable care for LGBTQ+ employees, patients, and the community.

The rigorous review process for the PRISM Award began in November 2025, during which the 5B East team submitted a comprehensive application highlighting their accomplishments and innovations. The unit was evaluated across several domains, including:

  • Holistic Patient Care
  • Elements of Interprofessional Care
  • Professional Concepts
  • Nursing Teamwork and Collaboration

“Receiving the AMSN PRISM Award is a testament to our commitment to delivering exceptional patient care,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens CEO Neil J. Moore, MBA, MPA, FACHE.  “This recognition reflects the clinical expertise, teamwork, innovation, and unwavering dedication of our nursing staff and their interdisciplinary partners. Our ICARE values—Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence—guide our organization and the work we do every single day.”

“Queens Hospital’s 5B East unit has demonstrated exceptional teamwork to ensure high-quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
