This is the third consecutive year it has attained this award

Apr 01, 2024

NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens proudly announces its latest recognition for outstanding achievements in patient safety from Healthgrades, a leading national healthcare organization dedicated to evaluating and comparing hospital performance. Joining the ranks of only eight private hospitals in New York State, NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens continues to uphold its commitment to excellence in healthcare. The hospital was previously noted for its high standard in patient safety in 2022 and 2023 by Healthgrades, making this the third consecutive year it has attained this citing.

“We are honored to once again receive this prestigious accolade from Healthgrades, highlighting our unwavering dedication to patient safety and our legacy of delivering exceptional healthcare services to the southeast Queens community,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens Chief Executive Officer Neil J. Moore, MBA, MPA, FACHE. “This recognition is a reflection of the hard work and leadership of our hospital staff, each contributing significantly to the integration of person-centered practices and values in their daily interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.”

Dr. Dave Holson, Chief Medical Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens, expressed his pride in the hospital’s ongoing commitment to patient safety and quality care, stating, “Achieving recognition for excellence in patient safety by Healthgrades is a testament to our relentless pursuit of providing the highest standard of care to our patients. This acknowledgment validates our continuous efforts to prioritize patient well-being and deliver exceptional healthcare services to the diverse communities we serve.”

Jean Fleischman, MD, who serves as the Deputy Medical Director, Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens, expressed pride in the hospital’s consistent acknowledgment by Healthgrades for excellence in patient safety. “This achievement underscores our exceptional performance in preventing infections, medical errors, and avoidable complications. Notably, our ICU team recently maintained a remarkable record of three consecutive years without a single central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) in ICU patients, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to patient care.”

Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance based on patient outcomes, adjusting for individual risk factors such as age, gender, and medical conditions. The organization continually reviews its ratings methodology and clinical quality evaluation process to ensure the accuracy and relevance of its data analysis.

Healthgrades’ rigorous analysis includes the examination of patient outcome data from over 45 million Medicare medical claims records spanning the most recent three-year period for approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Additionally, patient survey data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and patient safety outcome data from states with available all-payer data are considered in the evaluation process.
