NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi | North Central Bronx Celebrates Blood Donations to Save Over 200 Lives
One blood donation has the opportunity to save three lives after being divided by red cells, platelets, and plasma
Jun 15, 2026

NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi hosted a blood drive with the New York Blood Center (NYBC) where over 80 donations were made that can save up to 243 lives. Those who came to donate blood were given a box of Girl Scout Cookies for their generous contribution to saving lives in the community. The New York Blood Center is partnering with local Girl Scout troops to give a box of Girl Scout cookies to donors who give blood between Saturday, May 9 and Tuesday, June 30.
Blood donations are urgently needed in the warmer seasons of spring and summer because there is a seasonal rise in accidents and Emergency Room visits during these months. One blood donation has the opportunity to save three lives after being divided by red cells, platelets, and plasma. After dividing the donations and distributing to hospitals in the community, the blood is used for patients of accidents, cancer, or those undergoing a surgical procedure.
NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi | North Central Bronx CEO Christopher Mastromano says, “It is an honor to provide care to the Bronx community, and to provide that care, blood donations are essential to treating patients of traumatic accidents, cancer, or surgical procedures. Thank you to all who participated in saving lives through blood donations.”
“In our high-volume Level 1 Trauma Center, Jacobi Hospital uses donations to help our most critically injured patients,” says NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi | North Central Bronx Chair of Emergency Medicine Jeremy Sperling. “Every donation can make a huge impact on someone’s life, and we are so appreciative of everyone who joins in on the effort.”
North Central Bronx Hospital will host the next Blood Drive on Friday, June 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. where donors who give blood will receive a t-shirt and a box of Girl Scout cookies. Jacobi Hospital hosts a blood drive in the Build 8 – Atrium every three months, on a Wednesday, which is when the local Bronx Donor Center is closed.
