NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, East New York Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Commemorating 50 years of care and expanding access to state-of-the-art services

Aug 13, 2025

Council Member Chris Banks and representatives from the offices of Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, State Assembly Member Erik M. Dilan, State Senator Roxanne Persaud, and Congressman Hakeem Jeffries present Gotham Health, East New York with proclamations celebrating 50 years of service to the community.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, East New York last week celebrated its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of offering high-quality and affordable care to the East New York Community. The milestone was commemorated with a community celebration at East New York located at 2094 Pitkin Avenue in Brooklyn. Local leaders, residents, patients, and families came together to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and look toward the future of healthcare in East New York.

Gotham Health, East New York began its journey in 1974 as the East New York Neighborhood Family Care Center as part of a citywide initiative to expand healthcare access to underserved communities and address significant health disparities in the neighborhood. The center’s mission was to provide essential primary care to residents without access to other healthcare options.

As the community’s needs grew, the center expanded, evolving into the East New York Diagnostic and Treatment Center. This expansion included a wide range of primary and specialty care services. In 2015, the facility became part of the NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health network, undergoing rebranding to reflect its commitment to comprehensive care that aligns with Gotham Health’s mission of providing high-quality, affordable healthcare to all New Yorkers, without exception.

In addition to its longstanding commitment to primary and specialty care, Gotham Health, East New York now offers expanded radiology services, including 3D mammography, ultrasounds and X-rays. These state-of-the-art services are part of a broader initiative across Gotham Health locations to bring advanced diagnostic imaging directly into the community, ensuring timely and accurate medical assessments and improving patient outcomes.

“It’s an incredible achievement that Gotham Health, East New York has been providing high-quality, affordable care to the community for fifty years,” said Michelle Lewis, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health. “This milestone is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our staff, who have remained committed to serving the needs of our community.”

“As we gather to celebrate this great milestone in East New York’s history, we express our deep gratitude to Gotham Health, East New York for its unwavering commitment to engaging the community and ensuring high-quality care for patients and their families,” said Charmaine Roach Valentine, Regional Administrative Director, Brooklyn, NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health.

Gotham Health, East New York continues to provide a broad spectrum of healthcare services, including Primary Care, Family Practice Services, Adult Medicine, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Behavioral Health, Dentistry, Podiatry, Optometry, WIC Program, and Radiology.  By integrating these services into the community, Gotham Health continues to enhance healthcare access, ensuring that the East New York population receives timely, comprehensive care in one convenient location.

Located at 2094 Pitkin Avenue in Brooklyn, the health center is open Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m. Please visit NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, East New York for additional information.
