NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Unveils Five New Orthopedic Surgical Tables to Enhance Patient Care and Safety

The new equipment allows surgical teams to position patients safely and with greater precision during complex orthopedic procedures

Apr 15, 2026

Bellevue Hospital leadership joined members of the hospital’s surgical team for the unveiling of new orthopedic surgical tables.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue today unveiled five new orthopedic surgical tables following a $500,000 internal investment, advancing patient safety, surgical precision, and the overall care experience. The new tables allow surgical teams to position patients more safely and accurately during complex orthopedic procedures, including hip and femur fracture repairs. The upgrade replaces aging equipment that had reached the end of its service life and could no longer be reliably repaired.

“The new, state-of-the-art orthopedic surgical tables are a major step forward for both patient care and staff safety,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Chief Executive Officer Eric Wei, MD, MBA. “Bellevue Hospital’s orthopedic surgery team is among the best anywhere. This investment reflects our hospital’s ongoing commitment to providing the safest and most effective care possible to all New Yorkers without exception.”

“Our patients often come to us with very complicated medical needs,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Chief of Orthopedics Toni M. McLaurin, MD. “These new orthopedic surgical tables allow us to position patients with greater precision, improve access during surgery, and support real-time imaging without obstruction. That translates directly into safer procedures and better outcomes. This upgrade makes a meaningful difference for our patients and our teams every day.”

Dr. Toni McLaurin, Chief of Orthopedics at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, welcomes new orthopedic surgical tables.

The specialized tables support a wide range of orthopedic procedures by enabling independent positioning of the legs and improved access to the pelvis and lower body. Their design allows for clear, uninterrupted imaging during surgery, helping clinicians make faster and more informed decisions in the operating room.

In addition to improving patient care, the new equipment enhances working conditions for surgical teams. The tables are easier to set up, adjust, and move, reducing physical strain on staff and minimizing the risk of error during time sensitive procedures.

The arrival of the new tables marks an important milestone in Bellevue Hospital’s ongoing efforts to modernize surgical infrastructure and ensure that patients receive high quality care supported by the latest technology.

“The new orthopedic surgery tables are the gold standard in patient care, the same high quality that we are committed to providing to all of our patients,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Chief Operating Officer Erfan Karim, MPH. “Patients and their families can be reassured to know that Bellevue Hospital is investing in the expertise and the equipment to ensure the highest quality care.”

The five new orthopedic surgical beds will enhance patient care and safety.
