New York, NY

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced the appointment of Robert (Bob) de Luna as Press Secretary/Senior Director of Media Relations. As press secretary, Bob will be responsible for running day-to-day operations for the high-volume press office and serve as a strategic communications advisor for all external communications needs for the public health care system, which includes 11 hospitals, an extensive network of neighborhood health centers, a home care agency and five nursing homes/post-acute care centers that provide essential services to 1.2 million New Yorkers each year.

“Bob de Luna is a skilled communicator with deep knowledge and understanding of the changing and highly complicated health care environment affecting the work we do every day. He has solid and positive relationships with the press that cover these issues and can seamlessly take on the role of spokesperson,” said Ana Marengo, Senior Vice President, Communications and Marketing, NYC Health + Hospitals. “He will play a critical function in our efforts to communicate with New Yorkers and get our message across about our essential health system and our role as a leader in health care reform and transformation.”
“I’m excited about assuming my new role at New York City Health + Hospitals,” said Bob de Luna. “The health system plays such an important role here, welcoming all New Yorkers who need care and actively pursuing a number of innovative health care reforms. I look forward to helping New Yorkers see, hear, and read more about the critical role the system plays in this amazing city of ours.”
Bob de Luna has been Director of Public Information at United Hospital Fund (UHF) for more than 10 years, serving as the organization’s media liaison. Other roles at UHF included website oversight, marketing, and broader internal and external communication strategy. He served as Director of Marketing and Communications at Mount Sinai and as Director of Publications at NewYork-Presbyterian. Since 2005, he has served as a board member for the New York chapter of the Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society, including two terms as president. He has a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University, where he graduated first in his class, and received fellowships to pursue graduate studies at Stanford University and New York University.
He will start in his new position at the NYC Health + Hospitals on Monday, August 22, 2016.
