New York, NY – NYC Health + Hospitals announced all 11 of its hospitals were again recognized by the American Heart Association for their commitment to quality care in heart failure, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and resuscitation. Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke or heart attack, and heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 40 causes of death in the United States, respectively. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.

The American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline awards recognize hospitals nationwide that adhere to science-based practices and provide the highest quality care. NYC Health + Hospitals earned these recognitions by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure and stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and aggressive risk-reduction therapies. Before discharge, patients also receive education on managing their heart failure and overall health, and receive other care transition interventions.

“NYC Health + Hospitals is proud to once again receive recognition from the American Heart Association for providing high-quality care for heart attack and stroke,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Affairs and Clinical Business Strategy Sewit Teckie, MD, MBA. “This recognition reflects the extra ordinary dedication of our physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, and care team who deliver timely, evidence-based treatments for heart attack and stroke. Our commitment to clinical excellence and equitable care continues to improve outcomes for the patients we are privileged to serve.”

“This recognition from the American Heart Association reflects the unwavering commitment of our physicians, nurses, and care teams to delivering evidence-based, high-quality cardiovascular and stroke care to every patient,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Services and Population Health Ted Long, MD, MHS, LHD. “Across NYC Health + Hospitals, we are continuously strengthening our clinical programs, investing in innovation, and ensuring that all New Yorkers, regardless of their circumstances, have access to the highest standard of care. We are proud to be recognized for the lifesaving work our teams perform every day.”

“At NYC Health + Hospitals, we believe every New Yorker deserves access to exceptional heart and stroke care. The American Heart Association’s recognition affirms the dedication of our teams to delivering timely, evidence-based treatment that improves outcomes and saves lives,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer Hillary Jalon. “These achievements reflect our mission to advance health equity while ensuring every patient receives compassionate, high-quality care close to home.”
