Leapfrog Group Awards NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx The Highest Grade in the Bronx for Patient Safety

Independent Nonprofit Focuses on Quality of Care Nationwide

Nov 02, 2016

Bronx, NY

NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx received the highest grade of any hospital in the Bronx for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog. Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Scores assess hospitals nationwide using 30 evidence-based measures of hospital safety. North Central Bronx was the only hospital in the borough that received a “B,” and no hospital scored higher.

“We are proud to have the highest grade in the Bronx, which is a testament to the good work our staff has been doing to improve patient care,” said Maureen Pode, Chief Executive Officer, NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx. “Our patients are at the core of everything we do, and we strive to improve each day.”
The Leapfrog Group is the only independent ratings program that focuses solely on how effectively hospitals keep their patients safe.
“Protecting patients from harm is the most important task for any hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
In New York City, only five hospitals received grades of A or B. All five hospitals are part of NYC Health + Hospitals. The public health system includes the highest-scoring hospitals in Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, as well as the Bronx.
Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D, and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. These grades are calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.
