Research at the HHC WTC Environmental Health Center has found that patients who were exposed to dust and fumes after the 9/11 attacks tend to suffer from persistent headaches. Dr. Sara C. Crystal, a neurologist at Bellevue Hospital and NYU School of Medicine, wrote the study and focused on people who live and work in the area, rather than rescue professionals. The findings could point to chronic headache as another long-term medical consequence of 9/11. Dr. Crystal is scheduled to present her findings at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurologists in April.
