Mar 20, 2018

Bronx, NY

NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx hosted its Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day Conference to bring awareness to the impact nutrition has on creating a healthy lifestyle. The conference was attended by more than 100 people, including patients, staff, and other members of the community. Presentations included family meal planning, creating healthy lifestyles for overall well-being, and nutrition education.

“At NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx, our registered dietitians and nutritionists provide valuable education to our patients and community, encouraging and empowering them to make healthy food choices,” said Maureen Pode, RN, chief executive officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx. “Through their expertise and commitment, our patients gain the knowledge that helps not only them, but their families as well.”

The registered dietitians and nutritionists at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx are invested in supporting community access to healthy food and emphasizing nutrition education through the hospital’s programs and initiatives. They provide guidance to help people make healthier food choices and lifestyle decisions to meet personal goals and reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes. Educational programs are an important tool to help patients and other members of the community to understand the relationship between nutrition and quality of life.

“The Bronx leads the city with the highest rates of obesity, which is why health and wellness initiatives hosted by the hospital are key in helping our community fight obesity and live healthier lives,” said Gloria Bent, director of nutrition at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx.
