For the Great American Smokeout, NYC Health + Hospitals Reminds New Yorkers That Smoking Cessation Help Is Available

Nov 16, 2017

New York, NY

In recognition of the Great American Smokeout, NYC Health + Hospitals reminds New Yorkers that help with smoking cessation is available throughout the health system, including through all primary care and behavioral health providers.

More than two-thirds of smokers say they want to quit, and every year, more than half try. However, without assistance, fewer than 10 percent succeed. If you are interested in quitting smoking—for good—NYC Health + Hospitals is committed to helping you achieve a healthy, smoking-free lifestyle.

For those who don’t already have a provider in the public health system, smoking cessation programs are still available. Visit /services/quitting-smoking/ for more information.

The Great American Smokeout is an annual intervention event, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, held on the third Thursday of November, this year on November 16. Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the country and is linked to lung cancer, emphysema, high blood pressure, and heart disease. The event challenges people to quit on that day, or use the day to make a plan to quit.
