NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst's CEO and CFO Named to Crain's Notable Hispanic Leaders and Executives List

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that Chief Executive Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst Helen Arteaga-Landaverde and Chief Financial Officer David Guzman have been named to Crain’s “2021 Notable Hispanic Leaders and Executives” list. Both leaders were recognized for their successes in steering NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst through the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as ongoing efforts to provide care to underserved communities. Jessica Arocho, Director of Community Affairs at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull was also recognized for her community organizing.

I look forward to continuing to expand Elmhurst’s reach into the community and to increasing access to healthcare for all those who need it. I also want to salute my colleague and fellow honoree David Guzman for his steady stewardship of our finances throughout the COVID-19 crisis. He is truly one of our healthcare heroes.”

Arteaga-Landaverde, who previously served as an Assistant Vice President at Urban Health Plan, was appointed CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, a 545-bed Level 1 Trauma and Academic Medical Center, in January of 2021. In addition to overseeing the hospital’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts and securing over $27 million in capital funding for facility upgrades, she has also focused on improving the hospital’s ties with the surrounding neighborhoods through collaborative partnerships with community-based organizations and educational institutions.
David Guzman has twenty years of healthcare finance experience at NYC Health + Hospitals. In his role as CFO at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst he has spearheaded efforts to increase hospital revenue while containing costs. He has also managed the facility’s finances and efforts to secure funding for sufficient PPE, medical equipment, and other vital supplies as the hospital continues to care for an underserved community placed under enormous stress by COVID-19.
