Anthony Rajkumar Named Executive Director of HHC Metropolitan Hospital Center

New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) President and CEO, Ram Raju M.D., today announced that Anthony Rajkumar has been appointed Executive Director of HHC Metropolitan Hospital Center (MHC). Located in East Harlem, HHC Metropolitan Hospital is an acute care, teaching hospital providing comprehensive healthcare and supportive services to residents of East Harlem and surrounding communities. HHC Metropolitan Hospital is a full-service community hospital, with 338 certified beds and over 90 primary and specialty services, a state-of-the-art intensive care unit, a comprehensive surgery department, physical medicine and rehabilitation services, and a behavioral health pavilion with inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance abuse programs.
“Mr. Rajkumar brings a wealth of experience to Metropolitan, with nearly 30 years of experience managing healthcare operations,” said HHC President Dr. Ram Raju. “He has invaluable experience in delivering quality care to patients in urban settings, as well as a passion for serving those who are most vulnerable or have difficulty accessing medical care. I am confident he will bring the same level of excellence and leadership to his new role as Executive Director.”

Prior to joining HHC Metropolitan Hospital, Mr. Rajkumar served as the Chief Operating Officer at HHC North Central Bronx Hospital, where he was instrumental in the restoration of labor and delivery services to the facility. He previously worked as Chief Business Officer at the Cook County Hospital System (CCHS), in Chicago. In this capacity he was responsible for the provision of non-clinical services to support the System’s inpatient, outpatient, and managed care business units and successfully streamlined and improved operations at all levels of the organization.
For the roughly 25 years Mr. Rajkumar was at HHC prior to his tenure at CCHS, he held a series of positions of increasing responsibility, including Acting Chief Operating Officer at HHC Kings County Hospital Center, Deputy Executive Director for Operations and Support Services at Kings County, Senior Associate Executive Director at HHC Queens Hospital Center, and On-site Administrator for the HHC East New York Diagnostic & Treatment Center.
Mr. Rajkumar holds a Master of Science in Health Services Management and Policy from The New School and a Bachelor of Science from Regents College.
