MetroPlusHealth Health Plan, Inc., the affiliated health plan of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, has again been rated the number one Medicaid Managed Care health plan in New York City based on indicators chosen by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and recently published in the NYSDOH 2009 Consumer’s Guide to Medicaid Managed Care in New York City.
The guide, based in part on quality ratings submitted by the health plans and a NY State Department of Health member satisfaction survey, shows MetroPlusHealth with an seventy- three percent overall rating, ranking it first among New York City’s eleven Medicaid Managed Care plans. The ratings are based on measures including plans’ preventive and well-care for adults and children; quality of care provided to members with illnesses and patient satisfaction with access and service.
“We’re proud to be recognized as one of the top rated Medicaid Managed Care Plans for the last five years,” said Arnold Saperstein, MD, CEO of MetroPlusHealth. “This acknowledgement speaks directly to our mission to provide the highest quality, cost-effective healthcare to our members.”
In addition to Medicaid Managed Care, MetroPlusHealth offers Child Health Plus and Family Health Plus to eligible people living in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens. The Plan also operates Partnership in Care, a Special Needs Plan (SNP) for people with HIV and their families, the largest such program in the U.S. MetroPlusHealth also offers four Medicare Advantage plans, including MetroPlusHealth Platinum Plan (HMO), a new zero premium plan.
In operation for over 20 years, MetroPlusHealth offers a vast network of primary care doctors and specialists, including many independent community providers. The Plan emphasizes member education by providing numerous health education resources, including an award-winning, multilingual, quarterly member newsletter, and other strategies to help members get the most out of their health plan. MetroPlusHealth’ robust case management programs encourage members to partner with their providers to promote the best possible health outcomes. Plan staff is drawn from the communities that MetroPlusHealth serves and speaks over seventy languages.
