$50,000 Donation to the Fund for HHC Supports Employee Hurricane Relief

Gift brings total raised for public hospital system workers to almost $118,000

Nov 30, 2012

New York, NY

The Fund for HHC and the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) have received a $50,000 donation from the Philippines-based Felix Y. Manolo (FYM) Foundation for direct relief and assistance for HHC staff members who suffered losses from Hurricane Sandy. The donation brings the total amount raised for storm relief to $117,850.
The Fund for HHC has established a special Hurricane Relief Appeal to help staff members who are struggling with storm-related hardships. The donation was coordinated through the efforts of Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs Commissioner Fatima Shama. Three additional donations in the amount of $50,000 were made by FYM to support the staff of other City agencies that were personally hit hard by the storm. The other recipients were the foundations that support the City’s Police and Fire Departments, as well as the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.
Representatives of the FYM Foundation, the philanthropic arm of religious organization Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC), presented a check for $50,000.00 to Joe Schick, Executive Director of the Fund for HHC, at a November 20, 2012 ceremony in Times Square that attracted more than 2,000 enthusiastic INC friends and supporters.
“The Fund for HHC is indebted to FYM and its leadership for their great generosity and kindness,” Schick said. “Many HHC staff members worked tirelessly throughout the storm and without regard for their own personal circumstances, to provide good medical care for our patients and for the thousands of New Yorkers who desperately needed us. Now, many HHC employees are facing devastation or loss of their homes and personal property that is truly overwhelming. This heartfelt donation will allow us to help those who are dedicated to helping others.”
