NYC Health + Hospitals Emergency Physicians Named 2021 'Unsung Heroes' by New York American College of Emergency Physicians
The four doctors are among 26 individuals chosen by the medical society fortheir extraordinary efforts inside and outside of the emergency department

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that four of the system’s emergency physicians were named 2021 New York American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Unsung Heroes of Emergency Medicine. According to New York ACEP, the purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding emergency physicians who go above and beyond for their patients, colleagues, and community. The recipients are nominated by their department chair.

“I am fortunate to work with a fantastic team at Harlem Hospital Center and thankful that I get to serve the patients in this community,” said Cara Taubman, MD, MPH. “I am both honored and humbled that my work has been recognized in this way.”
“It is such an honor to receive this award, but I could not have met the challenges of this pandemic without the amazing staff members at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan and NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem,” said Frosso J. Adamakos, MD, FACEP. “They are the real heroes and it’s been a privilege to have worked with them.”
“I am humbled to be recognized by my colleagues and residents,” said James M. Willis, MD. “It’s an honor to serve the patients of Kings County and Downstate and to work alongside the amazing physicians, nurses and staff in both institutions.”
“I am honored and humbled to receive this award. My years at Lincoln though challenging, have been rewarding and above all transformative,” said Mary T. Ryan, MD. “I hope to have many more years ahead working in the South Bronx.”

There are many individuals whose unique and critical contributions to public health during the pandemic have been recognized,” said New York American College of Emergency Physicians President Keith E. Grams, MD FACEP. “However, there are those who play a role in creating a better environment for a significant portion of our emergency medicine community who are underappreciated and irreplaceable: New York ACEP is proud to recognize these individuals as the Unsung Heroes of New York State’s Emergency Departments.”
