NYC Health + Hospitals Honors 16 Nurse Professionals as Part of its Annual Nursing Excellence Awards

Nurse professionals were selected from across the City's public health system, to highlight the tireless work they do for patients

Oct 24, 2019

New York, NY

As part of its annual Nursing Excellence Awards celebration, NYC Health + Hospitals today honored 16 nurse professionals from across the public health care system. Nominations were submitted from across the health system and the 16 honorees were selected from this pool by a panel of nurse leaders. In previous years, only six nurses have been recognized by the Nursing Excellence Awards but increased this year to showcase all the areas of the City’s public hospital system that are supported by the tireless work of our nurses. There are more than 8,000 nurses in the public health system.

“Nurses are the back bone to any health system, and that’s especially true for NYC Health + Hospitals,” said Natalia Cineas, DNP, RN, Chief Nurse Executive for NYC Health + Hospitals. “Our 16 honorees not only reflect the diversity of our city but also reflect the mission, vision and strategic pillars of NYC Health + Hospitals, whether addressing care experience, quality of outcomes, access to care, or culture of safety.”

Jean Watson, Ph.D., RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, LL (AAN) was awarded with the 2019 Nursing Champion award. The Nursing Champion Award is an annual honor that is bestowed upon a person or organization to recognize demonstrated support for nurses and the nursing profession. This recipient does not have to be a nurse, or even be associated with NYC Health + Hospitals, but must display an understanding of the challenges facing nursing, among other things.

“Nurses are at the center of health care delivery, and NYC Health + Hospitals is lucky to have so many great ones,” said Assembly Health Committee Chair Richard N. Gottfried. “I congratulate these honorees who stood out among the over 8,000 dedicated nurses who serve the NYC Health + Hospitals system.”

“Congratulations to the nurse professionals receiving the Nursing Excellence Awards at NYC Health + Hospitals,” said State Senator Gustavo Rivera, Chair of the Senate Health Committee. “I commend the 16 recipients for their exemplary commitment to care for others, and am especially grateful to the nurses being honored for their service to the Bronx.”

Over 150 nurses from across the health system were nominated by their colleagues in honor of their valued achievements and commitment to providing the best possible care and experience for our patients. The nurses honored today are among the 8,000 nurses at NYC Health + Hospitals—women and men who provide care around the clock each day for New York City through our hospitals, post-acute care centers, community health centers and neighborhood clinics, home care, and the correctional health system, throughout the five boroughs.
