“I enjoy listening to others, where I can have open communication with my patients.”

Family Nurse Practitioner Corine Armand says communication with her patients is the key to good health.

“Patient care to me means sitting down with the patient and making them part of their own care plan; it creates a positive outcome,” she says. “Taking the person’s social life into their care plan is very important to patient success. I am passionate about other people’s life situations, which helps me to be a good nurse.”

Armand said she was inspired to become a nurse by her mother, who was a nurse midwife.
“It was something that was meant to be; I love to do my job,” she says.

She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in health and human development prior to pursing her nurse practitioner degree at Rutgers University. “I’m still a work in progress,” she says. “Working for NYC Health + Hospitals is the best part of my career. It has taught me so much. I hope that I can continue being a good asset to this community and future communities I serve.”

Some of her best moments have come from her patients, she recalls, including “seeing my patients do better with their health and feel comfortable with their status. I worked maternity for three years, which was one of the best moments of my career.”

“My long-term goal is to do international work for a health organization, working with struggling areas,” she says about her future plans. “Developing new policies and really educating myself, either in direct or indirect patient care.”
