Cardiology

The Cardiology team at NYC Health + Hospitals / Coney Island offers our patients complete diagnostic and clinical services. We are accredited by New York State Cardiac Diagnostic Center with a diagnostic catheterization and a cardiac non-invasive lab. Our 9-bed Critical Care Unit and 5-bed Coronary Recovery Unit are staffed with full-time cardiologists and cardiology fellows.

The Cardiac Catheterization Lab performs daily procedures on all inpatients and provides same-day discharge for scheduled ambulatory surgery patients.   The Catheterization team has an average of 15-plus years of experience, and we are proud to have one of the lowest complication rates in New York State.

The Emergency Department and Cardiology team work closely together to provide immediate and timely care to patients with chest pain. Our Emergency Room physicians immediately evaluate patients with chest pain, and those suspected of having a heart attack are directly taken for a minimally invasive cardiac procedure.

Our Cardiology services include:

  • Coronary angiography
  • Heart valve studies
  • Coronary bypass angiography
  • Congenital heart disease

Outpatient cardiology services are offered to patients discharged from the hospital for follow-up and cardiac consultation services. We also provide comprehensive outpatient cardiac rehab for our patients.

We offer a full range of non-invasive cardiac procedures to assist our cardiologists in diagnosing our patient’s heart conditions.

Non-invasive services:

  • Echocardiography
  • Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE’s)
  • ECG stress
  • Nuclear stress test imaging
  • Stress echocardiography
  • Ambulatory ECG monitoring
  • Event loop recording and tilt table studies.

TEEs and elective cardioversions are done with an anesthesiologist present. Nuclear stress testing is performed in our nuclear medicine department under the supervision of a board-certified cardiologist and board-certified nuclear medicine radiologist.
