Long COVID and the Road to Recovery – Virtual Symposium 2022

On June 8th, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and NYC Health + Hospitals co-hosted “Long COVID and the Road to Recovery”, a day-long virtual symposium. The symposium focused on care coordination for patients with Long COVID as they navigate medical and social support systems, centering on actionable takeaways for providers’ day-to-day practice.

This event was geared towards providers caring for people with Long COVID and community-based organizations delivering services that support people with Long COVID. Please find the agenda and speaker bios here.

Session 3: Policies to Support the Short- and Long-Term Needs of Patients with Long COVID

Session 3 began with a community care provider and a navigator from the NYC Health + Hospitals AfterCare program detailing their experiences connecting individuals with Long COVID to social supports and facilitating Long COVID support groups. Afterwards, panelists engaged in discussion around the landscape of existing policies and programs, centering which policies can and should be enhanced including ways to scale up support and navigation programs. Topics include: insurance and healthcare coverage, benefits, paid leave, social safety nets, and supportive housing.
