New York, NY

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that it has administered its 100,000th COVID-19 vaccine dose, a milestone in the hospital system’s vaccine effort. The dose was administered at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx to a health information management employee, Robert Fields. Fields has been with the health system for 21 years, having spent some years working at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi before arriving at North Central Bronx.
“Every milestone we’ve reached during the COVID-19 pandemic – from testing to hospital discharges, and now vaccinations – reassures us a little bit more that there is an eventual end to this pandemic,” said NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO Mitchell Katz, MD. “I can’t thank our workforce enough for facilitating the complicated logistics of vaccine distribution, and for their commitment to keeping New Yorkers safe and reaching an end to this pandemic.”
“I have diabetes, so it was important for me to get the vaccine to protect myself,” said Fields. “I also worked in the command center at the hospital during the height of the pandemic, and I remember receiving calls from so many family members of patients with COVID-19, who wanted to know their condition because they could not visit them. So, I really encourage everyone to get the vaccine to protect yourself and your loved ones from this terrible virus.”
“Preparing for and administering the COVID-19 vaccine these past couple months have been incredibly exciting for our health system, that’s helping to vaccinate our heroic workforce and the city’s most vulnerable populations,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Senior Vice President of Business Operations and Chief Pharmacy Officer Danielle DiBari, Pharm. D. “We’re looking forward to continuing to offer this life saving vaccine to all New Yorkers as eligibility expands, and playing our role in restarting New York City.”
NYC Health + Hospitals began offering COVID-19 vaccines to its workforce in December 2020, and since has invited residents, patients, non-affiliate community providers, essential workers, and eligible New Yorkers to get their vaccine at its hospitals, community-based health centers and the mass vaccination sites managed by the health system’s Test & Trace Corps.
New Yorkers eligible for a vaccine can find a site near them and make an appointment by visiting nyc.gov/covidvaccine.
