Nearly 300,000 people who live in New York City feel they don’t belong here. Not having access to health care is one of those reasons. Health care becomes inaccessible if a person is ineligible for public health insurance, can’t afford private insurance, or doesn’t know what health care services are available to them. As a result, they too often delay care until they are ill and seek care in the emergency room, where the wait is long and the cost high.
This is about to change.
