Registered Nurses are part of an interdisciplinary team of health care providers whose goal is to provide the highest level of service to all New Yorkers across the continuum of care. They are care givers, educators, mentors, teachers and care managers.
There is a proactive approach in the delivery of quality, safe patient care through the use of advance technology such as a clinical information system, an electronic medical record and integrated medication management system.
NYC Health + Hospitals provide services to the people of New York regardless of ability to pay. Services cross the continuum of care, from the youngest neonate to our most distinguished seniors.

NYC Health + Hospitals is comprised of seven networks which are geographically based. Click here to see the locations of our facilities.
Each network and facility offers educational programs based upon the patient care delivery and staff’s needs. Calendars are developed which identify the educational offerings available. In addition, Registered Nurses are represented by New York State Nurses Association. There is an allowance for tuition reimbursement and conference costs.
Facilities have developed based upon their needs, internship, externship, nurse residency and preceptor programs. When you apply to for employment at one of our facilities, you can discuss their specific programs available with the recruiter or hospital representative.
Training and development Departments offer network wide programs on self improvement (anger management) and examples of skill related topics include: business writing, time management, customer relations and cultural sensitivity.
Journal and book clubs are available.
Clinical Information Systems provides education related to information technology and practice.
Orientation is comprised of two parts; core and clinical. There are mandatory components for all employees. Nurses participate in education related to their area of practice. Clinical orientation is competency based, the length of orientation is based upon the nurse’s ability to progress through the required education and skills validations.
The alternate work schedule is available at our facilities. At some facilities it is primarily utilized in the critical care areas. Discuss this information at your interview with the hospital representative.

Yes. NYC Health + Hospitals nursing staff are represented as follows: The Registered Nurses are represented by New York State Nurses Association. The Licensed Practical Nurses are represented by 1199. The Nursing support staff are represented by District Council 37.
Registered Nurses are entitled to the benefits of their contract. This includes items such as tuition reimbursement, evening and night differential pay, experience pay.
As a member of NYC, NYC Health + Hospitals employees are entitled to join the NYC employees’ retirement system. This enables the employee to earn a New York City Pension. For additional pension information refer to www.nycers.org.
