Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing (HBSON) began its baccalaureate degree program in nursing in 1955. In 1969, when Bellevue Hospital closed its School of Nursing (the first U.S. school founded on Nightingale’s model for nursing education), Hunter moved its nursing program to the Bellevue School’s location and renamed it to honor that school’s historic contributions.
Today, HBSON enrolls over 1,000 students in its baccalaureate, master’s and DNP programs, educating nurses at multiple levels to provide care to culturally diverse, urban, and global communities.
