Volunteer applicants must meet the following criteria:
Foreign Medical Graduates may be eligible to volunteer if they have had one year of US post graduate training at an ACGME-accredited program. Such volunteers may practice medicine under supervision as if they were PGY-2s. At this time, all other Foreign Medical Graduates, including ECFMG-certified individuals, are not eligible to act as clinical volunteers.
Clinical volunteers may apply at: https://covid.nychealthandhospitals.org/volunteer/.
You may indicate on your application if you have a specific facility or borough you wish to volunteer in. We will honor your facility preference 100% of the time.
Typically, the review for disaster privileges is complete within 24-48 hours of your submission. If disaster privileges are issued, we will let our facilities know of your availability and your expertise so they can reach out if they need your assistance. Because staffing needs are rapidly evolving, we cannot anticipate how quickly a facility may reach out. You can then arrange your start date and schedule with that site coordinator.
If we are not able to issue disaster privileges to you we will provide you with alternative, non-clinical pathways you could assist NYC Health + Hospitals during these trying times.
While our staffing needs change quickly, we know we will continue to depend on the generosity of volunteers. Please consider joining the frontlines of the COVID-19 response and fill out the form to volunteer with us.
